“I started my career in education because its kind of something I always thought I would like to do. My aunt was my 4th grade teacher and she just showed me the love of learning and made teaching really awesome and fun. I wanted to always to do it.”

How is teaching different now than 30 years ago?
“Teaching is different now than it was 30 years ago, even though I have only been teaching for 8. The resources that we have available to us are just astronomically bigger than the ones that were available to teachers 30 years ago. Everything I do is almost computer related, T.V. related, document related and to just not have any of that, I don’t see how they survived it.”
What would you tell someone who wants to become a teacher?
“I would tell someone that’s thinking about becoming a teacher, I would tell them that it is hard, it is tough. Be prepared to cry and to work long hours. But it is very rewarding.”
What is one thing you would change to help kids learn better?
“Name one thing I would change to help kids learn better is, I think, group work is a great way to help kids learn better. One thing would be meeting them where they are. I think if you meet them where they are and build on that it makes it light years of difference. Helping them become successful is kind of really what it is all about.”
