Can you tell us about yourself?
“Hi, my name is Therese Hubbell and I work at Vestbury Elementary School. I am a 3rd grade teacher. We are located in Mid- Michigan. This is my second year here but fifth…seventh year teaching overall.”
Why did you start a career in education?
“Why did I start a career in education? I always wanted to be a teacher, like played teacher as a kid, etc. But I also loved to help others and the thought of helping a kid learn something new is just amazing to me. Like, watching them get it and understand, so exciting.”
If you could have any other job what would it be and why?
“I’ve always wanted to be a teacher worked hard to finally become a teacher. I would choose teaching over and over again.”
How are kids different now than 30 years ago?
“When I was in school there was no technology, we didn’t have cell phones, we didn’t have … I mean we had computers but very basic DOS computers.”
How is teaching different now than 30 years ago?
“Learning and using the technology has probably changed teaching a lot.”
What would you tell someone right now that is thinking about becoming a teacher?
“It has to be something you that love no matter what because there are hard days and there are hard things that happen. You need a good support system and just need all of that in place. And if you can have all of that, you will do great.”
What is one thing you would change to help kids learn better?
“I am always looking to help kids to learn better. I am always trying better myself and become a better person and a better teacher. I am always trying to learn new things and new ways to help them so that is always my goal. Thanks! Bye.”
