2. The county was named after Judson Harmon, a former governor of Ohio and US Attorney General. This happened after statehood, in 1909.

4. At one point in the early 1900s, there were 28 incorporated towns in Harmon County. Today, only 5 towns remain: Hollis, Electric City, Gould, Vinson, and Dryden.
5. The county was home to one of the largest oil booms in Oklahoma history. In the early 1900s, the discovery of oil brought about rapid growth and development of the region.
6. The Hickory Creek Bridge, which spans across the Red River on the border between Texas and Oklahoma, was once the longest double-decker bridge in the world. Its lower level was used for automobile traffic, while the upper level was reserved for rail transportation.
7. During World War II, Harmon County was the site of a German Prisoner of War Camp. The camp housed more than 3,000 prisoners, and many of them were put to work in the area's agriculture industry.
