5. The town of Lampasas was once home to an infamous outlaw gang called the Sam Bass Gang. The gang robbed trains and banks throughout Texas in the 1870s. A posse led by Texas Ranger Captain Junius Peak eventually caught up with the gang, and a shootout ensued. Sam Bass was mortally wounded and died a few days later.
