Can you tell us about yourself?
"Hi, my name is Jayme, Mrs Roper. I teach at Western Heights Miiddle School, eighth grade career exploration and some of the ninth grade year yearbook. We are located in the central part of Oklahoma City and I've been here for two and a half years."
Why did you start a career in education?
"Started my career because I was laid off from my previous job. Um, I wanted to do it when I was in high school and got married and had a child and got side tracked."
How is teaching different now than 30 years ago?
"Teaching is way different 30 years from in the past to now to even 30 years from now. I think we lack the respect for our children have lacked the respect of authority."
What would you tell someone who wants to become a teacher?
"Um, if you're thinking about getting into teaching, I would say make sure that you can handle the disrespect for authority. Um, make sure and watch the age limit."
What is one thing you would change to help kids learn better?
"Um, I would definitely change hands on. I think we need to be a lot more hands on to get the teaching done."
