Can you tell us about yourself?

"Hello. My name is Megan Wilson. I'm an eighth grade math teacher at Buoy junior high in Buoy Texas. I've been at this campus for four years. I have been teaching for 15 years."

Why did you start a career in education?

"I started teaching because I had a first grade teacher that was very special and always made every student feel special in her classroom and that is why I wanted to go into education. Um, I ended up deciding I wanted to teach math because math was always easy for me. I was able to explain it to my friends and I always enjoyed it. So I thought it would be great to be able to teach it to others."

If you could have any other job what would it be and why?

"If I could have any other job, it would be to be a curriculum specialist in math because I really liked being able to help teachers and students and help give ways that are inventive, learn how to teach math."

How are kids different now than 30 years ago?

"I think kids 30 years ago just were raised different than what kids are raised today. We didn't have the technology 30 years ago that there is today and so there was less opportunities for children and now the world is at their fingertips."

How is teaching different now than 30 years ago?

"I think that teaching was more strict. It was more started 30 years ago than it is today."

What would you tell someone who wants to become a teacher?

"If somebody is thinking about becoming a teacher, I would tell them that, you know, you do it for the students and that you can have a great impact on lots of people's lives."

What is one thing you would change to help kids learn better?

"The one thing that I changed to help kids learn better would be to give them opportunities. Um, if they have technology at their fingertips and if they have headphones with them, then they can go on tours of places that they may never be able to go to in real life. That we can bring those opportunities to them in the classroom."
