The Labette County Sheriff's Office has been serving the citizens of Labette County for nearly 150 years, with the first Sheriff having been appointed in 1867. In addition to providing primary law enforcement in the unincorporated areas of the county twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, the Sheriff's Office also provides law enforcement in the cities of Angola, Bartlett, Edna, Labette, Mound Valley, and Valeda. Labette County is mostly rural and consists of approximately 653 square miles with more than 20,000 citizens.
Law enforcement and response to 911 calls is a huge part of what deputies in Labette County are tasked with; however, they have many other roles as well. The Labette County Sheriff's Office is responsible for keeping the courts safe, the handling of mental hygiene orders and transports, serving all civil process from the court system, and the ongoing management of the county jail.
