Welcome to Wagoner County! Located in Oklahoma's northeastern region, Wagoner County was created in 1907. Surrounding counties include Rogers and Mayes to the north, Cherokee on the east, Muskogee and Okmulgee on the south and Tulsa on the west. According to the 2020 U.S. Census, Wagoner County is one the fastest counties in Oklahoma for population growth, with a population of 80,981. As of July 2021, the population for Wagoner County is estimated at 84,050. Most of our population growth is seen on the West side of the county.
With approximately 591 square miles of land and water, Wagoner County is part of the Ozark Highlands which includes wooded hills, small prairies, pasturelands, and three major rivers. The Verdigris River divides the east and west parts of the county. The Arkansas River forms part of the western and southern boundaries. In 1942, Fort Gibson Lake was created by impounding the Grand River. Fort Gibson lake offers 19,990 surface acres and 225 miles of shoreline and is popular weekend destination for people across the state.
