The City of Huntsville serves as the county seat and proudly hosts Sam Houston State University as well as many historical landmarks. Within the boundaries of Walker County, you will also find the City of New Waverly nestled amongst nearly 55,000 acres of the county’s National Forest, and the City of Riverside just off the banks of the Trinity River.

Walker County ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEARS TAX RATE. THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 4.6% AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $20.00.
