4. In 1939, the South Dakota State Capitol building was dedicated in Pierre. The building took ten years to construct and is made of locally sourced materials, including South Dakota sandstone.

5. In 2018, South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard signed a bill into law that reversed a ban on pit bull ownership in the state. The ban had been in place since 1987.
