1. In 1934, the first Rattlesnake Roundup was held in La Junta, Colorado. This annual event continues to draw visitors from all over the country and includes activities such as snake handling demonstrations and a barbecue.

2. In 1953, the Colorado Rockies became the first team to win a professional baseball game in Denver. The team would eventually move to Salt Lake City the following year.

3. On April 18, 1906, a massive earthquake and subsequent fire devastated San Francisco, California. Many buildings in Denver, Colorado swayed during the earthquake but no major damage was reported.

4. In 1928, the city of Sterling, Colorado experienced one of the most destructive hailstorms in history. Golf ball-sized hail damaged crops and buildings throughout the area.

5. In 1983, the Colorado Rockies played their first game at McNichols Sports Arena in Denver. The team would play at the arena for six years before moving to their current home at the Pepsi Center.
