1. In 1875, famed lawman Wyatt Earp arrived in Prescott, Arizona to start his career as a deputy sheriff. Earp is best known for his involvement in the gunfight at the O.K. Corral in Tombstone, Arizona in 1881.

2. In 1918, the U.S. Army established Luke Field near Phoenix, which would eventually become Luke Air Force Base. The base remains an important training and operations center for the Air Force to this day.

3. In 1961, the first stage of Glen Canyon Dam on the Colorado River was completed. This massive dam, which took over a decade to construct, provides hydroelectric power and water storage for much of the southwestern United States.

4. In 1981, the Arizona Diamondbacks played their first game in franchise history. The Diamondbacks are a Major League Baseball team based in Phoenix, and have since won the National League pennant twice and the World Series once.

5. In 1990, singer Linda Ronstadt was inducted into the Arizona Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame. Ronstadt, who grew up in Arizona, is known for her hit songs such as "You're No Good" and "Blue Bayou."
