3. In 1927, the Detroit Tigers played their first game at the newly constructed Navin Field (later renamed Tiger Stadium). The Tigers defeated the Cleveland Indians 6-5 in front of a crowd of over 30,000 spectators.

4. The Detroit Free Press Marathon, which is now known as the Detroit Free Press/TCF Bank Marathon, held its first race on April 25, 1982. The marathon spans both the United States and Canada, with runners crossing the Ambassador Bridge and the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel.

5. In 2014, the Michigan State University men's basketball team defeated the University of Kentucky in the NCAA Final Four, securing a spot in the championship game.
