1. On April 6, 1830, the city of Memphis, Tennessee was founded. It was named after the ancient Egyptian city of Memphis.

2. In 1862, during the American Civil War, the Battle of Shiloh began near Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee. This two-day battle resulted in over 23,000 casualties and is considered one of the bloodiest battles in American history up to that point.

3. On April 6, 1896, the first ever recorded automobile accident occurred in New York City. The accident involved a motor vehicle and a pedestrian and resulted in minor injuries. While this event did not take place in Tennessee, it marked a significant moment in transportation history.

4. In 1938, the Great Appalachian Storm impacted Tennessee and several other states in the region. The storm brought severe flooding and resulted in over 100 deaths across the affected areas.

5. On April 6, 1994, the trial of former Tennessee governor Ray Blanton ended with him being sentenced to 22 months in prison for mail fraud and conspiracy. Blanton had been accused of selling pardons to multiple individuals, and the scandal led to his resignation in 1979.
