4. On this day in 2006, a tornado outbreak swept through central and southern Mississippi, causing extensive damage to homes and businesses. One of the most powerful tornadoes, rated EF3 on the Enhanced Fujita scale, tore through the town of Sumrall, destroying several houses and injuring multiple people.
