1. Colorado became a state on August 1, 1876. Colorado was the 38th state to join the United States.

2. The historic Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs officially opened its doors on August 1, 1893. The hotel was built by Walter Devereux, who was inspired by the grand hotels he saw during his travels in Europe.

3. In 1933, the City and County of Denver passed an ordinance establishing the Denver Mountain Parks system. The system includes more than 22,000 acres of park land, including Red Rocks Park, which is home to the famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The ordinance was signed into law on August 1 of that year.

4. On August 1, 1955, Colorado Governor Edwin Johnson signed the first state law in the United States allowing women to serve on juries. The law went into effect on January 1, 1956.

5. The Colorado Rockies played their first Major League Baseball game on August 1, 1993. The Rockies defeated the New York Mets 3-0 at Shea Stadium in New York City.
