1. In 1874, the last buffalo hunt took place in Wichita, Kansas. The hunt was organized by Colonel Dodge and saw the killing of around 3,500 buffalo.

2. In 1920, the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified, granting women the right to vote. Kansas was one of the first states to grant women suffrage in 1912, eight years before the federal amendment.

3. In 1958, the Wichita State University football team played their first game. They defeated the University of Omaha 22-0 in front of a crowd of 2,000 spectators.

4. In 1991, the famous Kansas muralist, John Steuart Curry, was honored with a postage stamp issued by the United States Postal Service.

5. In 2013, actress and comedian Mary Tyler Moore was awarded the Kansas City Women in Film and Television Lifetime Achievement Award at the Kansas City Film Festival. Moore was born in Brooklyn, New York, but spent part of her childhood in southern California and attended Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles.
