1) On August 24, 1832, the state of Alabama passed a law creating the town of Montgomery as the new capital. This decision was made to replace Tuscaloosa, which had been serving as the capital since 1826.

2) The famous civil rights activist and minister Martin Luther King Jr. gave a speech at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, on August 24, 1958. This was one of many important speeches given by King during the height of the civil rights movement.

3) On August 24, 1917, the first execution by electric chair was carried out in Alabama. A man named Will Williams was put to death in Kilby Prison in Montgomery for the murder of a police officer.

4) In 1814, on August 24th, a treaty was signed in present-day Alabama between the United States and the Creek Indian Nation. This treaty, known as the Treaty of Fort Jackson, ended the Creek War and resulted in the cession of much of their land to the United States.

5) The Alabama National Fair, a popular annual event held in Montgomery, typically begins in late August. The fair features a wide variety of attractions, including games, rides, food vendors, livestock shows, and concerts.
