1. On August 30, 1682, William Penn arrived in New Castle, Delaware. 4. On August 30, 1954, a tornado hit the town of Milford, Delaware, causing extensive damage and injuring several people. The tornado touched down near the Milford airport and moved eastward, striking several homes and buildings before dissipating over the Delaware Bay. It was one of the most destructive tornadoes in Delaware's history.

5. The Delaware Memorial Bridge, which spans the Delaware River and connects Delaware and New Jersey, was officially opened to traffic on August 30, 1951. The bridge was constructed as a joint project between the two states and was dedicated to the memory of Delawareans who served in World War II.
