1. On August 30, 1682, William Penn arrived in New Castle, Delaware. Penn was the founder of the Pennsylvania colony and was also granted ownership of the "Three Lower Counties" of Delaware by the British crown. He visited Delaware to establish his authority over the region and conduct business with the local Dutch and Swedish settlers.

2. In 1862, a Civil War skirmish known as the Battle of Chantilly was fought in Virginia. Brigadier General Philip Kearny, a New Jersey native who had been raised in Delaware, was killed in the battle. Kearny is remembered for his bravery and leadership during the war, and several monuments and memorials have been dedicated to him in Delaware.

3. The first Delaware State Fair was held on August 30, 1920, in Harrington, Delaware. The fair was organized to promote agriculture and showcase Delaware's livestock and crop production. Today, the Delaware State Fair is the largest annual event in the state and attracts over 300,000 visitors each year.

4. On August 30, 1954, a tornado hit the town of Milford, Delaware, causing extensive damage and injuring several people. The tornado touched down near the Milford airport and moved eastward, striking several homes and buildings before dissipating over the Delaware Bay. It was one of the most destructive tornadoes in Delaware's history.

5. The Delaware Memorial Bridge, which spans the Delaware River and connects Delaware and New Jersey, was officially opened to traffic on August 30, 1951. The bridge was constructed as a joint project between the two states and was dedicated to the memory of Delawareans who served in World War II. Today, the Delaware Memorial Bridge is one of the busiest transportation hubs in the region, carrying millions of vehicles each year.
