4. On August 8, 1974, President Richard Nixon announced his resignation from the presidency in the wake of the Watergate scandal. Floridian lawmakers played key roles in the congressional investigations that ultimately led to Nixon's downfall.

5. In 1987, a mentally ill drifter named Mark David Chapman was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for the murder of former Beatle John Lennon. The killing shocked the world and drew attention to the issue of gun control. Despite numerous attempts at parole, Chapman remains behind bars at the Attica Correctional Facility in New York.
