1. North Dakota's first radio station went on air on December 28, 1922. KFYR Radio, located in Bismarck, was originally started as a partnership between businessman R. M. Young and the Bismarck Tribune newspaper. Today, KFYR Radio is still on the air and is one of the oldest radio stations in the country.

2. The town of Anamoose, North Dakota was established on December 28, 1909. The town was named for the wife of one of the town's earliest settlers, who came from Anamoose, Ireland. Today, Anamoose is home to around 200 residents and is known for its annual celebration of Norwegian heritage.

3. On December 28, 1895, a blizzard struck North Dakota, resulting in the loss of at least 16 lives. The blizzard, which came to be known as the "Panic of '95," was one of the worst in the state's history, with winds reaching up to 70 miles per hour and temperatures dropping to -40 degrees.

4. On December 28, 1948, North Dakota's first commercial television station went on air. KXMB-TV, located in Bismarck, was originally owned by businessman Kenneth J. May until it was bought by Hoak Media in 2012. Today, KXMB-TV is part of the CBS network and serves viewers throughout central and western North Dakota.

5. December 28 is National Chocolate Candy Day, and North Dakota is home to a number of chocolatiers and candy makers. One of the most well-known is Askvig's Candy Factory in Fargo, which has been making candy since 1922. The factory is known for its homemade fudge, truffles and other chocolate treats, and visitors can take tours and sample the candy for themselves.
