1. In 1869, Minnesota's first luxury hotel, the Nicollet House, opened in St. Paul. The hotel featured 280 rooms and was a popular destination for wealthy visitors to the city.

2. On December 6, 1904, the state's first-ever automobile show was held in St. Paul. The event was organized by the Minnesota Automobile Dealers' Association and featured cars from a variety of manufacturers.

3. In 1987, the city of International Falls set a record for the state's lowest temperature in December when the mercury dropped to a bone-chilling -50 degrees Fahrenheit.

4. December 6 is also the anniversary of the tragic 1917 explosion at the Mathison Oil Company in Minneapolis. The blast killed six people and caused extensive damage to nearby buildings.

5. In 1993, the Mall of America opened its doors in Bloomington. At the time, it was the largest mall in the world, covering 4.87 million square feet and featuring more than 500 stores. Today, it remains one of Minnesota's most popular tourist destinations.
