1. In 1864, the Battle of Jenkins' Ferry took place in Grant County during the Civil War. Union forces successfully prevented Confederate troops from crossing the Saline River and advancing further into Arkansas.
2. In 1913, Little Rock saw its first successful airplane flight. Pilot Calbraith Perry Rodgers landed his plane, the Vin Fiz, at the State Fairgrounds after completing the first transcontinental flight across the United States.
3. On February 1, 1942, the U.S. Army activated the 5th Infantry Division at Camp Joseph T. Robinson in North Little Rock. The division went on to serve in both World War II and the Korean War.
4. In 1950, a major snowstorm hit Arkansas, dropping up to 20 inches of snow in some parts of the state. The storm caused widespread power outages and transportation disruptions.
5. On February 1, 2011, Governor Mike Beebe announced plans to relocate the Arkansas Hospice inpatient facility from Little Rock to North Little Rock. The new facility, which opened in 2013, has 12 private patient rooms and was designed to provide comfort and support to patients and their families.
