1. On February 11, 1749, the Town of Wilmington was officially incorporated as a city by the colonial government of Delaware. Today, Wilmington remains the largest city in Delaware and a hub of commerce and culture in the state.

2. In 1811, the DuPont Company, one of the most famous and influential corporations in American history, was founded in Wilmington by Éleuthère Irénée du Pont. The company played a major role in the development of Delaware and the United States, particularly in chemical manufacturing and materials science.

3. On February 11, 1862, during the Civil War, federal forces captured the town of Edenton, on the eastern shore of the Delaware Bay. The capture of Edenton helped to secure Union control of the bay and the surrounding region, which was strategically important during the conflict.

4. In 1898, the Delaware College for Colored Students (now Delaware State University) was established in Dover. The school was founded to provide higher education opportunities to African Americans in Delaware and has since become an important institution of higher learning in the state.

5. On February 11, 1939, the first televised presidential address in American history was given by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. In his address, Roosevelt discussed the importance of protecting the freedoms of individuals and nations in the face of growing threats from totalitarian regimes around the world. The historic address was broadcast on NBC, CBS, and DuMont television networks.
