1. In 1907, Oklahoma became the 46th state in the United States of America. The road leading up to statehood was a long one with numerous drafts of legislation, agreements with Native American tribes, and votes. Finally, on November 16th, 1907, the President signed the bill that officially made Oklahoma a state. The first governor, Charles N. Haskell, was inaugurated on February 13th, 1908.
2. In 1920, Oklahoma was the sixth state in the country to ratify the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote. Governor James Robertson signed the ratification on February 13th, making it official.
3. On February 13th, 1971, the Oklahoma City Blazers hockey team set a Central Hockey League record for the most goals scored in a game. In a match against the Dallas Black Hawks, the Blazers won 18-3 with Craig Sarner scoring 7 goals, setting another individual record that still stands to this day.
4. On February 13th, 2002, the Winter Olympics torch passed through Oklahoma City en route to Salt Lake City, Utah, for the games. Thousands of Oklahomans turned out to see the torch and participate in celebratory activities.
5. In 2013, a massive winter storm swept through the state, bringing with it blizzard conditions, freezing temperatures, and up to 20 inches of snow in some areas. Thousands of Oklahomans were left without power and stranded on the roads. The storm led to numerous cancellations of school and businesses on February 13th and the following days.
