3. In 1844, the Connecticut State Capitol building was dedicated in Hartford. The building was designed by prominent architect Richard Upjohn and features a distinctive gold-gilded dome.
4. In 1926, the notorious gangster Al Capone was acquitted of charges related to a shooting at his headquarters in Cicero, Illinois. Capone reportedly had connections to bootlegging and organized crime in Connecticut and other parts of New England.
