4. In 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster occurred in California. The shuttle exploded shortly after takeoff from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, killing all seven crew members on board. Among the crew was Ellison Onizuka, the first Asian-American astronaut.
