3. In 1956, Elvis Presley made his first appearance in Indiana, performing in the city of Terre Haute. The show was met with controversy, as some civic leaders believed his dancing was too suggestive.

4. On February 5, 1881, the small Indiana town of Peru became the site of a gunfight between law enforcement and a gang of robbers led by the infamous outlaw William "Billy the Kid" Bonney.

5. In 1937, Indiana became the first state to pass a law requiring all school buses to be painted bright yellow in order to increase visibility and reduce accidents. Today, school buses across the country are still painted this iconic color.
