1. In 1787, New Jersey became the third state to ratify the United States Constitution. The Constitution was signed in Philadelphia in September of the previous year, and New Jersey's speedy ratification helped to solidify the document's legitimacy.

2. On February 6, 1899, the Board of Trade and Transportation of Jersey City was founded. This organization was created to promote the economic growth and development of Jersey City and the surrounding area.

3. In 1911, the New Jersey State Police force was formed. The State Police were originally created to combat organized crime in New Jersey, but their duties have expanded to include providing law enforcement assistance to local municipalities and other state agencies.

4. On February 6, 1937, the Newark City Subway opened for service. The subway is a 4.3 mile-long light rail line that connects Newark Penn Station with Bloomfield Avenue in Newark's North Ward.

5. In 1999, the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League retired #27 in honor of Scott Stevens. Stevens was the captain of the Devils' Stanley Cup championship teams in 1995, 2000, and 2003, and he was an integral part of the team's success during his 13 seasons with the organization.
