2. In 1900, the Detroit Tigers were formed as a Major League Baseball team. The Tigers have won four World Series championships and have been owned by the Ilitch family since 1992.

3. In 1926, the Michigan Theater opened in Ann Arbor. The theater, which is still in operation today, was designed in the Spanish Renaissance style and is renowned for its exquisite interior.

4. In 1942, the first mass draft of World War II occurred in Michigan. More than 11,000 men were drafted into the United States Armed Forces.

5. In 2013, the blizzard known as Winter Storm Nemo hit Michigan, causing massive snow drifts and widespread power outages. The storm was one of the largest in Michigan's history and resulted in several deaths and millions of dollars in damages.
