1) On January 10, 1901, the first daily newspaper in Minneapolis, The Tribune, published its first edition. The paper eventually merged with the Minneapolis Star to become the Star Tribune, which is still in circulation to this day.

2) In 1976, Hennepin County Medical Center performed the first successful heart transplant in Minnesota on January 10. The recipient, a 44-year-old man, lived for another 17 years after the surgery.

3) On January 10, 1983, a record-breaking cold snap hit the state, with temperatures plummeting to -60°F in Embarrass, Minnesota, the coldest temperature ever recorded in the state.

4) The Metrodome, an iconic sports stadium in Minneapolis, opened on January 10, 1982, with the Minnesota Vikings hosting the Seattle Seahawks. The dome was home to the Vikings, Minnesota Twins, and Minnesota Golden Gophers football team over the years.

5) On January 10, 1994, a major ice storm hit the Twin Cities, causing widespread power outages and damage to trees and buildings. The storm left over 250,000 households without power for up to a week.
