1. In 1783, Connecticut General Assembly authorized the raising of a Continental regiment called "Connecticut's Own." The unit played a critical role in the Revolution and were mustered out at West Point on January 20, 1784.

2. On January 20, 1891, the Connecticut State Library was opened to the public. The library is the official state library and an integral part of the cultural and intellectual fabric of Connecticut.

3. In 1925, the Connecticut General Assembly passed a law requiring all motor vehicles to be titled and registered with the state. The law went into effect on January 20th of that year.

4. On January 20th, 1961, John F. Kennedy was inaugurated as the 35th President of the United States. Connecticut played an important role in JFK's election, with the state voting for him in both the primary and general elections.

5. In 2009, the Connecticut Science Center opened its doors to the public in Hartford. The center features over 165 hands-on exhibits, live demonstrations, and Connecticut's only public planetarium. Its opening on January 20th marked a new era in science education and outreach for the state.
