1. In 1890, Idaho was admitted as a state to the United States on January 20th. The centennial anniversary of Idaho statehood was celebrated with events and exhibits throughout the year in 1990.

2. On January 20, 1905, the Idaho State Capitol building was destroyed by a fire. The building was quickly rebuilt and the current capitol building was completed in 1920.

3. Idaho's first female governor, Cecile Andrus, was inaugurated on January 20, 1977. She was married to former Idaho Governor Cecil Andrus, who had served two terms from 1971-1977 and 1987-1995.

4. In 1993, Idaho Governor Cecil Andrus issued an executive order creating the Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area. The conservation area protects one of the world's densest populations of raptors, including golden eagles, prairie falcons, and owls.

5. On January 20, 2017, Idaho Senator Mike Crapo was sworn in for his fourth term in office. Crapo has served in the Senate since 1999 and has focused on a range of issues, including financial services regulation, tax policy, and energy.
