2. In 1864, the Battle of Rivers' Bridge took place near Ehrhardt, South Carolina, during the Civil War. The Confederate army, led by General P.G.T. Beauregard, successfully repelled a Union attack, preserving their supply lines in the area.

3. On January 28, 1893, the first electric streetcar line opened in Columbia, South Carolina. The line ran from the South Carolina Statehouse to the old Richland County Courthouse and was a major milestone in the development of the city's transportation infrastructure.

4. In 1947, six African American men from Clarendon County, South Carolina, filed a federal lawsuit challenging racial segregation in the state's public schools. The case, Briggs v. Elliott, was one of five consolidated into the landmark Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision in 1954, which declared segregation in public schools unconstitutional.
