1. In 1863, the Idaho Territory was created when President Abraham Lincoln signed the Idaho Organic Act. This act established the territory's boundaries and authorized the appointment of territorial officials.

2. In 1921, the Idaho State Capitol building was dedicated in Boise. The building was constructed between 1905 and 1912 and features neoclassical architecture.

3. In 1959, the first chairlift in the United States was installed at Sun Valley Resort in Idaho. The chairlift was invented by James Curran, who owned a sawmill in Ketchum, Idaho.

4. In 1974, Idaho's first National Park, the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, was established. The park covers over 756,000 acres and is home to mountains, lakes, and wilderness areas.

5. In 1997, Idaho's most powerful earthquake in over 20 years struck the state. The quake measured 6.0 on the Richter scale and was centered near Borah Peak, resulting in two deaths and significant damage.
