1. In 1860, author Laura Ingalls Wilder was born in Pepin, Wisconsin, which is located just across the border from Minnesota. Wilder would go on to write the beloved "Little House on the Prairie" book series, which was based on her childhood experiences in the Midwest.

2. On January 9, 1908, the University of Minnesota inaugurated its new president, George Edgar Vincent. Vincent served as president of the university from 1907 to 1917 and oversaw major expansions to the campus and academic programs during his tenure.

3. In 1965, the Minnesota Vikings played in their first-ever NFL playoff game, taking on the Baltimore Colts at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore. Despite a solid effort by the Vikings, they fell short in the contest, losing 24-14.

4. On January 9, 1973, the infamous "Triple Murder" trial began in Faribault, Minnesota. The trial involved three men who were accused of killing a woman and her two children in a farmhouse near Owatonna. The case received widespread media attention and resulted in all three men being found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.

5. In 2018, Minnesota native Lizz Winstead, a comedian and co-creator of the “Daily Show,” announced the formation of the Lady Parts Justice League – a group dedicated to fighting for women’s health and reproductive rights. The group uses humor and satire to raise awareness about these issues and has been active in promoting women’s voices in politics and activism.
