1. Delaware officially became the first state to ratify the United States Constitution on July 1, 1787. This earned Delaware the nickname "The First State."

2. July 1, 1953 marked the opening of the first portion of the Delaware Memorial Bridge, connecting Delaware to New Jersey. The bridge was named after the soldiers from Delaware who lost their lives in World War II.

3. On July 1, 1991, the state of Delaware enacted the first state wide physician-assisted suicide law in the United States. The law remained in effect until it was overturned in 1997 by the United States Supreme Court.

4. The Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs was established on July 1, 2007. The division is responsible for preserving and promoting the historical and cultural heritage of Delaware.

5. July 1, 2019 marked the 30th anniversary of the Delaware Lottery. The lottery was established in 1975, and has since contributed over $5 billion to the state's General Fund.
