3. In 1985, one of the deadliest floods in Colorado history occurred on July 10, after a severe thunderstorm hit the mountain town of Fort Collins. The storm dumped more than 14 inches of rain in just a few hours, causing flash floods that killed five people and caused extensive damage to buildings and roads.

4. On July 10, 2003, the Rocky Mountain News published the first ever photograph of a grizzly bear in Colorado, taken by a remote camera on a trail in the San Juan Mountains. Grizzly bears, which are native to the state, were believed to be extinct in Colorado, but sightings have increased in recent years.

5. The Colorado Rockies baseball team played its very first game on July 10, 1993, against the New York Mets at New York's Shea Stadium. The Rockies lost the game 3-0, but went on to have a successful inaugural season, drawing record crowds to their new ballpark in Denver.
