1. In 1863, the Civil War Battle of Corydon took place in southern Indiana. It was the only battle fought in the state during the war and resulted in a Confederate victory.
2. In 1908, the Indiana University School of Nursing opened in Indianapolis, becoming the first university-affiliated nursing school in the state.
3. In 1922, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway hosted its first ever race under lights, using floodlights powered by generators. It was a huge success and led to the development of night racing.
4. In 1983, James Oliver, the inventor of the Oliver tractor, was posthumously inducted into the Inventors Hall of Fame. Oliver's tractors revolutionized agriculture in the early 20th century.
5. In 2017, the city of Carmel celebrated the opening of the world's largest fitness center, the 400,000 square foot Lifetime Fitness facility. The $30 million facility includes a 60,000 square foot gym, multiple pools, basketball and tennis courts, and much more.
