1. On July 10, 1893, the first-ever Nebraska State Fair was held in Omaha. It featured exhibits, horse racing, and agricultural displays and became an annual tradition in Nebraska.
2. In 1925, Nebraska installed its first traffic signal in Omaha at the corner of 18th and Harney Streets. It was a three-way signal, with yellow and red lights, and helped regulate traffic in the growing city.
3. On July 10, 1938, a terrible tornado struck the town of Spencer, Nebraska. The storm killed six people, injured dozens, and destroyed much of the town. Today, Spencer still remembers the disaster with a Memorial Park and Museum.
4. In 1999, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln men's basketball team traveled to Australia for a series of exhibition games. On July 10, they played against the Sydney Kings and won 94-76, giving Nebraska a 2-0 record on their trip down under.
5. On July 10, 2019, the city of Kearney unveiled a new bronze statue of former Nebraska football coach Tom Osborne. The statue was erected outside the Tom and Nancy Osborne Complex at the University of Nebraska-Kearney and honors the coach's legacy in the state.
