1. The Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route was designated as a National Historic Trail on July 11, 2009. This trail marks the path taken by General George Washington and his French counterpart, Jean-Baptiste de Rochambeau, as they marched their troops from Rhode Island to Yorktown, Virginia during the Revolutionary War.

2. On July 11, 1804, Vice President Aaron Burr fatally shot Alexander Hamilton in a duel in Weehawken, New Jersey. The long-standing political rivalry between the two men escalated to the point where they agreed to settle their differences with a duel. Hamilton died the day after the duel, and Burr was later charged with murder but acquitted.

3. The Newark riots began on July 11, 1967, following the arrest and beating of a black cab driver by white police officers. The riots lasted for five days and resulted in 26 deaths, hundreds of injuries, and millions of dollars in property damage. This event is still remembered as one of the most traumatic moments in Newark's history.

4. The infamous "Jersey Devil" was reportedly first sighted on July 11, 1735. According to legend, the creature is a winged, hooved monster with a goat's head and a long tail, and is said to roam the Pine Barrens region of New Jersey. 5. On July 11, 1962, James Joseph "Whitey" Bulger, one of America's most notorious gangsters, was sentenced to federal prison after being convicted of bank robbery and other crimes. Bulger gained notoriety as the leader of the Winter Hill Gang in Boston, and was later suspected of involvement in numerous murders and other criminal activities. He eluded capture for years before being caught in California in 2011, and died in prison in 2018.
