1. In 1863, the Battle of Buffington Island took place in Meigs County during the American Civil War. The Union victory here effectively ended Confederate General John Hunt Morgan's raid through Ohio.

4. On this day in 1944, a B-24 bomber crashed into Lake Erie during a training exercise. Despite the efforts of rescue crews, all 10 crew members perished in the crash. The wreckage was not located until 1987.

5. In 1996, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland celebrated its one millionth visitor, marking a milestone for the popular attraction that honors the history and impact of rock music. Today, the museum remains one of Ohio's top tourist destinations.
