2. On July 22, 1937, legendary country music singer-songwriter George Jones was born in Saratoga, Texas. Jones would go on to become one of the most influential and successful singers in country music history, with hits such as "He Stopped Loving Her Today" and "The Grand Tour."

3. In 1966, Tennessee Governor Frank Clement announced a plan to create a state lottery to help fund education. However, the proposal was met with opposition from religious and anti-gambling groups, and ultimately failed to pass.

4. On July 22, 1985, singer-songwriter Webb Pierce passed away in Nashville. Pierce was a pioneer of honky-tonk music and had more number one hits than any other country artist until George Strait surpassed him in the 2000s.

5. In 2003, the Tennessee Titans' training facility in Nashville was renamed the Saint Thomas Sports Park after a partnership with Saint Thomas Health. The Titans are Tennessee's professional football team and were previously known as the Houston Oilers before relocating to Nashville in 1997.
