3. In 1890, the Idaho State Penitentiary was established in Boise. Over the years, it gained notoriety for its harsh living conditions and the infamous executions that took place there. The penitentiary closed in 1973 and now serves as a museum.

4. On July 25, 1915, the United States Forest Service created the Sawtooth National Forest in Idaho. This beautiful forest is home to countless recreational opportunities, including hiking, fishing, and camping.

5. In 1967, a devastating wildfire known as the Sundance Fire broke out in the Clearwater National Forest. The blaze burned over 56,000 acres and destroyed dozens of structures before it was finally contained. The Sundance Fire remains one of the worst wildfires in Idaho's history.
