1. On July 28, 1876, a group of Nez Perce warriors led by Chief Joseph fought and won a battle against the U.S. Cavalry at the Big Hole Battlefield in southwestern Montana. Many Nez Perce, including women and children, were killed in the battle, which was part of the Nez Perce War.

2. Ada County was officially organized on July 28, 1864. The county, which includes the state capital of Boise, was named for Ada Riggs, the daughter of H.C. Riggs, a prominent early settler in the area.
