1. On July 29, 1847, the Applegate Trail, one of the main emigrant routes to Oregon, was established. The trail followed a southern route from the Oregon Trail, crossing over the Siskiyous and the Cascade Mountains, and ultimately led to settlements in southern Oregon and California.
2. In 1855, Native American tribes in Oregon signed treaties with the U.S. government, ceding over 13 million acres of land. The treaties were signed on July 29, in the midst of the Rogue River Wars, a conflict between settlers and Indigenous peoples.
