2. June 1, 1910, marked the opening of the first luxury hotel in Hawaii, the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki which catered to wealthy travellers and set a new standard for hospitality in the Pacific.

3. In 1942, June 1, marked the beginning of the Battle of Midway, which was a crucial turning point in the Pacific during World War II, and saw the US Navy defeat the Japanese, thwarting their plans for expansion in the region.

4. On June 1, 1978, the Hawaiian Language Act was passed, recognizing the Hawaiian language as an official language of the state and led to a resurgence of interest and revitalization of the Hawaiian language and culture.
