1. On June 1, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the National Park Service Organic Act, officially creating the National Park Service. New Mexico is home to four national parks, including Carlsbad Caverns, White Sands, Bandelier, and Pecos.

2. The New Mexico State Fairgrounds, located in Albuquerque, officially opened on June 1, 1938. The fairgrounds host the annual New Mexico State Fair, as well as various other events throughout the year.

3. On June 1, 2000, the Cerro Grande Fire, one of the largest wildfires in New Mexico history, was fully contained after burning over 47,000 acres in Los Alamos County. The fire was caused by a prescribed burn that got out of control.

4. The Santa Fe Opera, one of the most renowned opera companies in the world, opened its doors for the first time on June 1, 1957. The company performs in a unique open-air theater in the picturesque setting of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

5. The New Mexico Museum of Art, located in Santa Fe, was officially dedicated on June 1, 1917. The museum's collection includes over 20,000 works of art, ranging from traditional Native American art to contemporary works by New Mexico artists.
