1. In 1903, the first automobile was driven in Las Vegas, Nevada. May Dorn, the wife of Las Vegas' first jeweler, drove a white Winton automobile down Fremont Street.

2. In 1911, Burton Frasher Jr. was born in Elko, Nevada. Frasher became a renowned photographer who documented the American West, including Nevada's Hoover Dam and Lake Tahoe.

3. In 1937, a devastating fire destroyed most of the Boulder Dam Hotel in Boulder City, Nevada. The hotel, which had been built in 1933 to house workers building the nearby Hoover Dam, was later restored and is still in operation today.

4. In 1971, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) hosted its first graduation ceremony. The ceremony was held in the Judy Bayley Theatre, which had opened just a year earlier on the UNLV campus.

5. In 2013, the Nevada State Legislature approved a measure legalizing online poker within the state's borders. Nevada became the first state in the U.S. to offer legal online poker, and several major casinos in the state have since launched their own online poker sites.
