3. In 1996, the Nevada Test Site was renamed as the Nevada National Security Site. The site, located about 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, was used for nuclear weapons testing from the 1950s until the early 1990s.

4. On June 13, 2000, the United States Supreme Court upheld a Nevada law that allowed legal brothels in the state. Prostitution is still legal in some parts of Nevada today.

5. In 2013, a wildfire broke out near the town of Pioche, Nevada, burning more than 8,000 acres of land. The fire threatened several homes and buildings, but no injuries or fatalities were reported.
